Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President-elect Donald Trump spoke hours after the latter became the second US president after Grover Cleveland to get elected for two non-consecutive terms on Tuesday.

He expressed eagerness to once again collaborate closely with the Republican to further bolster the India-US relationship, with a focus on technology, defence, energy, space, and several other key sectors.

Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties and advancing mutual interests for the betterment of both nations.

"Had a great conversation with my friend, President @realDonaldTrump, congratulating him on his spectacular victory. Looking forward to working closely together once again to further strengthen India-US relations across technology, defence, energy, space and several other sectors," Modi said in an X post.

President-elect Trump praised PM Modi, calling him a "magnificent man" and commended India as a "magnificent country", sources speaking to CNN-News18 said.

They said that Trump expressed admiration for Modi, saying the whole world loves him and also added that Modi was one of the first world leaders he reached out to after his election victory.
